Webomatica: WordPress Tips and Strategies

Nice list of tips! I really need to use the Back up plug in more often, just in case.

Hi Char, yes, I actually just backed up my WordPress for the first time today. I sort of thought about how terrible it would be to lose everything after all the posts. Sometimes that sort of "worst case scenario" thinking inspires me to take action. Luckilly, it's totally easy to do and took hardly any time. That's the kind of chore I like!

Related to #8, track down and install WP-Cron. Then you can schedule routine backups of your sql db without having to remember to do it. I set up a gmail account for the express purpose of receiving daily backups from the handful of wordpress sites I manage. With 2.7 GB of storage, I figure I can get about 10 years worth of daily backups...

That is a good tip - I think you mean this plug-in? Anything that saves the blogger some time is worth checking out. Gmail is great, also.

Yep, that's the one. Peace of mind with very little effort. Can't beat that.

Thanks for the WP-Cron tip, tunequest, automatic backups to a Gmail account would be really nice. As it is, I only backup when I upgrade WP.

    Other plugins I'd recommend:

    Enforce www. preference
    Admin Drop Menus
    Subscribe To Comments

Those three always get installed whenever I help a friend get setup with WordPress.
