Movie Notes: Avatar
Such as, oddly my own favorite is One Her Majesty's Secret Service followed by The Man with the Golden Gun and Moonraker (I think all of these are on your worst list, it's a sad shame). And of course I don't think any Bonds are bad but the Dalton and middle of the Brosnan area got a bit sour. I think the "worst" if there is one was The World is Not Enough with that "Christmas Jones" character sheesh.
I did like the plot of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. If Sean connery were in that role I think it could have been the best bond ever. It's actually not on my "worst" list. I put it at the bottom after my favorite ones ranked by who starred in which Bond film.
If you want to see all my ratings please check out This List.
Anyhow thanks for visiting and commenting.
Just throwing it in there that Goldeneye is my fav bond. Also, I think For Your Eyes Only is under-rated quite often
I'm sure I'll do a post on the outcome.
As for the worst Bonds - yes, I agree. Moonraker was a total disgrace.
I also did not care too much for A View To A Kill, which was quite forgettable.
I liked FYEO too, I gave it 4 stars. That part where Bond is dragged over a reef with Havelock was thrilling.
I found I enjoyed AVTAK, but only because it took place in the Bay Area (where I live) and the nefarious plot of destorying silicon valley with an earthquake was rather amusing. Plus there are some locations where Roger Moore is on Fisherman's Wharf that I liked. Of course, on the other hand the way May Day died was just wrong.
Thanks for visiting and commenting!
Overall though, I agree with you, however I'd say Die Another Day was by far the worst Bond film of all time. The plot, women, music, action, believability and even the special effects completely sucked. At least moonraker had some decent action, even if it was totally unbelievable and at least young kids can enjoy moonraker, no demographic should be subjected to Die Another Day.
I'm glad you more or less agree. Die Another Day was like a cartoon or at worst a bad superhero film like Batman and Robin. I think the part where the shaved genetically manipulated guy was running away from Halle Berry was where I started rolling my eyes. Then it only got worse, with the invisible car and Bond windsurfring from a glacier.
Just curious what the rationale behind this was. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for visiting - I think I need to make a note about that at the top.
The Dalton Bond films are not horrible but Dalton is one dull Bond - if they were just another action movie, we wouldn't really remember them very much either but they wouldn't be measured against FOR RUSSIA WITH LOVE or GOLDFINGER.
The Lazenby Bond again as an action movie was not bad but commits two unpardonable sins - James Bond gets married and then can't save his wife from getting killed. That would be like a Bond movie where Moneypenny gets killed by a terrorist - we don't watch Bond movies for ultra realism or reality ... we want to see a guy parachute 3 miles and kill a guy and continue skiing to a lodge with 3 girls ... and yea, George L compared to Connery was like comparing Tobey McGuire to Clint Eastwood ... but as an action movie, it was a B - as a Bond movie, the producers blew it by letting that script plot go through.
I didn't like Dalton in Licence to Kill, but The Living Daylights was exactly what Bond needed after Roger Moore in A View To A Kill.
With Lazenby, I kind of disagree - I liked the fact Bond got married and the ending was a big shocker. I just think Lazenby didn't act well enough for such a pivotal moment. I wonder how good OHMSS would have been with Sean Connery in the role.
Thanks for visiting and commenting. I'm liking the different opinions being raised here. Obviously this is just my personal list.
But then again, this is all opinion! Did you rewatch them before or after Casino Royale? And I assume you're going through the whole new box sets that just came out (love them - have all 4!).
I just watched Casino Royale a few days ago, so yes, I watched all of them before I made this list.
Stephan it seems a lot people really didn't like AVTAK which I can totally understand. I just liked some other Bonds even less.
I'll totally agree with you that about 50% are really good. I think out of all the ones I saw, the seven I liked are the only ones I'll buy on DVD.
Thanks for visiting and commenting!
Good fx and running around with pulley cables on cranes and whatever, doesn't make a good movie, especially not a good James Bond movie. Even my wife said "damn this guy is ugly, is he really the new James Bond?".
It seems, that after I read all these comments and the ones on digg, that many people think A View To A Kill is a terrible Bond Movie. That is probably true and I think it could easily swap places with The Man With The Golden Gun.
Second, the jury still seems to be out on the new Casino Royale.

Anyhow even if folks disagree that's totally fine. There are so many Bond films and I made this list to the best of my ability. Hopefully you got a kick out of reading it.
Rules to a good Bond flick:
1. Classic foreign sportscar
2. At least three era appropriate beauties. Preferrably with sexual innuendos for names
3. A witty line that leads to the bad guys demise.
Write it down, take a picture and you'll come up with a whole new Best and Worst...
Hopefully you'll like my future post on the seven hottest Bond women better, but I'm starting to think that will raise an equal amount of controversy.
Thanks for visiting - as long as you felt the need to comment I take that as a positive sign. Even if you disagreed with me :).
Never Say Never Again: It was a Connery outing with Kim Basinger as the totty. The plot was basically a rehash of You Only Live Twice and boy was it a stinker.
Then again you may not be counting that one as it was made by Warner Bros and the Broccoli family had nothing to do with it (I remember there being some sort of legal wrangling going on regarding the franchise at the time)
because of his charm , his smile , style of speaking was wonderful.
after him comes Sean Connery , today i don't know why roger moorE
AND SEAN CONNERY ARE not regarded as the best but pierce brosnan
. the worst james bond was timoothy dalton.

worst: either moonraker or die another day.
1.) A View to a Kill: The action scenes, like the fire truck chase, were hokey and Roger looks like he belongs in a nursing home.
2.) Die Another Day: Too cartoonish for a 007 movie; special effects overkill made it feel like a bad comic book adaptation. They might as well have just put a cape on Pierce and told him to fly.
3.) Liscense to Kill: Waaaaay too slow and boring. Plus it's a Timothy Dalton movie...
On the actors who played Bond:
Connery and Moore were the best hands down. While they're approaches to playing Bond were very different, they both had what it takes to play a good Bond: Good looks, charm, style, wit and both were just damn good actors. While their approaches to playing Bond were quite different, they were the two actors who who best embodied and defined all the things that everyone thinks of when they think of 007, which is a perfect segue to Pierce Brosnan:
Pierce definitely LOOKED like a James Bond, and while he wasn't a bad actor, he didn't really do anything to leave his mark on the role and make it his own. If you pay close attention to Pierce's portrayal of Bond, he's basically just mixing all the things that Connery and Moore were best at individually to hide the fact that he lacks the creativity and/or the balls to put any of himself into the role. That being said, IMO, Pierce was a very average Bond who falls right in the middle of the lot. In fact, if he wasn't so good looking, he would've easily been forgotten. As for the worst...
Poor George Lazenby not only had to follow Sean Connery, but he did so with virtually no prior acting experience, and it shows in his one outing as 007. While not a bad looking guy, and while he definitely was athletic enough to pull off the action scenes, his inconsistent delivery of lines, lack of screen presence, and ackward facial expersions really make you wonder why they didn't select a more seasoned actor for a script that required so much seriousness and emotional range, and not some rookie whose only prior acting experience had been in a chocolate bar commericial. With that being said,
Lazenby was still not as bad as... ***DRUM ROLL***
Timothy Dalton! By far the worst to ever play Bond. Poor Timmy tried so hard to make Bond more "cold" and "lethal" that he just came off as dull and emotionless. He made Bond feel like a robot and no so-called action movie will put you to sleep faster than Liscence to Kill. The only reason he lucked up and made a good movie with The Living Day Lights was because it was interesting to see the new direction the Bond franchise would go in after the Moore era ended and because he had the luxury of having a good script with some really cool action scenes and a nice plot. Good thing he only made two movies, though.
I can't rank Daniel Craig until I see more. While I think Casino Royale was one of the best Bond films so far, he could easily turn out to just be a dud who had the luxury of having a good first script and the hype of taking the franchise in a new direction surrounding him like Dalton did with his first movie. While Craig's acting wasn't bad, the one thing I will say is that he is definitely too UGLY a choice to play 007, but I don't guess he can help that; If we'll have to endure his ugly mug on the screen as 007 for years to come, then he'll have to overcompensate with his acting.
Of course, all just my opinions as a Bond fan, though...
As for if Lazenby or Dalton is worse - The more I think about it, Her Majesty's Secret Service had so many good points - Diana Rigg, a pretty cool plot with Bond getting married, but Lazenby made it worse. As for Dalton, it's kind of a toss up for me, because I found one of his movies good while Licsence to Kill is awful, as you say. But yeah, they're both on the bottom of the barrel for sure.
But you are definitely right that the jury is still out on Daniel Craig. Only one film - he could be another Dalton!

I must say I was disappointed, To me it was like a romance movie, with a lot of things blowing up. AND BOND !! OUCH, what kind of monkey ears are those. He was not a good Bond at all, he looked to worried in the movie. Bond never worries he is in control at all times. Most important here, when he orders his martini the bar tender asks how he wants it, shaken or stirred... and Bond says " I DON'T CARE " !! Can you believe that. IT'S AN OUT RAGE. I knew it was bad When Timothy Dolton asked for a BUDWISER!! But come on. Where is the respect. There are a few things that these people who are making these movies should know about BOND That they fail to realise.
1) Where was Q he was not in this movie = BAD
2) MARTINI Bond says " I don't care" = BAD
For those of you who don't know, BOND has his Martini's SHAKEN' not stirred... Something Timothy D. forgot ( the poo poo head)
3) The bond woman ??? WHERE DID THEY GO IN CASINO ROYALE BECAUSE I DIDN'T SEE THEM =BAD VERY VERY BAD !!
Note = where were their names ?? I don't even remember.
Vanna Hump a lot.. NO I want to steal all your money, and then Kill myself... Wow what a woman. = NO THANK YOU = VERY VERY BAD.
4) The most important, this is #1 alway's Bond is a male showvenistic pig, come on !! You know as woman we all like it.
Even if your thinking, I would slap his face for that. You still like.
This is the true Bond.
THE SAD PART HERE IS WHERE DID HE GO!! I MISS HIM.
Thanks.
you all take care, and I am looking forward to the next BOND MOVIE.
Angel.
You people need to actually think before you post stuff on the internet, and maybe know a little bit about what your talking about.

Top 5 Films (as in, the ones I most enjoy watching):
1. Casino Royale
2. The Living Daylights
3. Thunderball
4. Goldeneye
5. For Your Eyes Only
Worst 5 Films
1. Die Another Day
2. Octopussy
3. A View to a Kill
4. Moonraker
5. Diamonds are Forever
Definitely looking forward to the next Daniel Craig installment to see if he can keep up the Bond game over several films.
Might as well stick with the basic gadget and mission in all the Bond films made.
1. Q, this is Bond's start as a 00.. maybe they didn't assign him the luxury of gadgets yet. Level up hero! Also, you didn't see Q in Dr. No did you?
2. Dude, it's Bond's start as a 00!! Aren't you at all curious as to why a Shaken Vodka Martini is his drink? After all, after a series of attempts of finding the right drink and the "I don't care" comment.. he does say "this is actually not bad".. TA DA.. there he found his drink!
3. The Bond girl was clearly stated in the movie. Your inability to remember it is your own problem lol.
4. I don't even know what you are getting at with that comment.. lol
For me, Lazenby is tall but his face is not bond. I liked Brosnan better than Moore but Connery takes the cake. Best bond film ever.. goldeneye. Dude tank in the streets.. how sweet is that? Haven't found the worst one yet :P
Best Bond Films - (1) Thunderball (2) Dr No (3) Goldfinger (4) Casino Royale (5) Live and Let Die
Best Bond Girls - (1) Dominoe (2) Kissy Suzuki (3) Jinx (4) Solitaire
NOTES - I hope that the franchise does not steer the next film towards a more light hearted Roger Moore style of Bond film. Daniel Craig has been quoted as saying just that. In my opinion, Casino Royale got it just right. It is very reminiscent of Dr No in its realism (for a meglamaniac adventure film that is) and its raw, emotional performances. I like some of the Moore films, they are enjoyable and Moore had the ability to introduce light humour (Saint style) into the Bond character. I just hope that the Moore style will be something that we can look back on, not something that will be rehashed.
In general, Bond is pure escapism at its best....I go through "Bond waves" that is to say, periods where I can't get enough. It is important to let the movies rest for a while though, then, when the need to watch them again builds up to boiling point....watch them all over again...
Justin
Justin if you want a movie with realism go to a cowboy movie and let the James Bond movies alone. Let them continue there tradition with the gadets and and all the imaginary or (unrealism) as you might say that make a James Bond movie. For all the James bond movies up until Casino Royal have had gadgets and are made that way which what makes a good classic James Bond Movie.
If you Just want a movie with kicking, fighting, and shooting guns like Casino Royal with no gadgets, then "just go to a cowboy movie!!"
I blame Jill St. John for playing the annoying Bond girl, Tiffany Case.
Best Bond Film: Live And Let Die
Worst Bond film: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
OHMSS would've been better with Connery but who knows?
Without the music, the films would have only one leg to stand on, as a composer i make my opinions 55% on the soundtracks. ...
Therefore regardless of how bad a story might be, the music plays second role to save a picture IMO.
as an example 'Live & Let Die' rocks! Cracking soundtrack!!!!
'Man with Golden Gun' Pumping Riffage! etc etc
I love the list, but still have to watch Casino Royale.
Maybe if music was concerned we would have to compile a different list??? No harm in that, but would be interesting to see how ppl react to it.
Thanks!
1) Casino Royale (2006). A goodly dose of the right stuff.
2) From Russia With Love. Oh, those pesky double-crossing Russians.
3) On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Mrs Peel, James Bond and the best storyline of the lot.
4) Die Another Day. Convention-busting Brosnan triumph.
5) Dr No. The primal text, with Connery at his most likeable.
6) For Your Eyes Only. Sir Roger’s one real Bond movie.
7) Goldeneye. Dragster-paced human manga novel.
17) Licence To Kill. Impassioned Dalton in post-good Miami Vice season opener.
18) Thunderball. Long, lingering, lukewarm sog with remote-control Connery.
19) A View To A Kill. Golem-like Moore, plot beamed in from Mars.
20) The World Is Not Enough. Big empty nothing with some great actors rattling around inside.
21) Moonraker. Come back Ed Wood, all is forgiven.
22) Octopussy. Plotless tedium enlivened only by silly bits.
23) Casino Royale (1967). A complete dog’s breakfast.
My favourite Bond-scores are:
01: The Spy Who Loved Me
02: On her Majesty´s Secret Service
03: Diamonds Are Forever
04: The Living Daylights
05: A View To A Kill
06: GoldenEye (A lot will disagree on this one)
The music is what separates the Bondfilms from other actionfilms such as Bourne.
But I don´t like that you don´t like Dalton. Below you´ll see my opinion. The best actor and his films in order of how I like them best:
01: Timothy Dalton (He looks great for the part and he is serious)
02: Daniel Craig (He´s got Dalton´s style. Almost like a copycat. He is cool. He is in good shape)
03: Sean Connery (The look, The strength and his style. He is just perfect but not tough enough)
04: Pierce Brosnan (Somewhat the best looking Bond to date and he was good at action)
05: Roger Moore (He is too light and he brought too much humor into it)
06: (This guy isn´t even an actor)
01: From Russia With Love (Dark and realistic and i love the villains and the locations)
02: Diamonds Are Forever (Like the henchmen and especially the music. Good plot)
03: Licence To Kill (Dalton prooves he has the midas touch. Dark and realistic - Good action)
04: GoldenEye (Greatest casting ever experienced. Good setdesigns and great plot)
05: Casino Royale (The score suck but the action is good. It´s dark and I love the title sequence)
06: The Man With The Golden Gun (Great locations - Best villain in any Bond-movie)
07: The Spy Who Loved Me (Good Set Designs and the best scored Bond movie ever)
08: For Your Eyes Only (Lot of locations and it is great entertainment. Good song)
09: The Living Daylights (Greatest Theme song for any movie. Great plot and Dalton is god)
10: Thunderball (Love the mood. Love the locations... Do you wanna swim? I do)
11: The World Is Not Enough (Somewhat the most thourough plot for any Bondmovie )
12: GoldFinger (Great landscapes. Great villains but the girls arent very interesting)
13: Live And Let Die (Love the locations. Although the plot sucks it´s quite a thrill)
14: On Her Majesty´s Secret Service (Good Music - Lack of suspence and casting)
15: You Only Live Twice (Great sets and music but there is too much action)
16: A View To A Kill (It´s good and I love the music. Love Christopher Walken - Moore is way too old to play the role of Bond... Love the Climax)
17: OctoPussy (Redicolous but interesting - Love the train sequences - worst Bondsong ever)
18: Die Another Day (The first half is good - North Korea and Cuba. The rest is farfetched)
19: Tomorrow Never Dies (What sucks is: The song - The locations - The Sets - The score - The plot - What´s good is the pre credit sequence.... And Brosnan)
20: Moonraker (Rediculous and farfetched - Great music but I hate the song - Too much humor)
21: Dr.No (A lot will disagree but I don´t care. What´s bad is: The music - The effects - the amount of action sequences - The missing pre title sequence - The title sequence itself)
Comment on this one please. . . And I´m being honest here. Like my own list. Bond is an important man. Take him seriously. Well at least a little.
Hope the Bond 22 will be as good as Casino Royale.
My Best to Worst Bonds List:
1: Timothy Dalton/ He was serious and dark and still had a sense of humor. This was the character that Ian Flemming made. A spy who was serious and lethal. Dalton definetly looks the part of James Bond.
2:Daniel Craig/ He would be at the top of the list, but he still has to prove himself as Bond in Quantum of Solace. But Casino Royale was an amazing triumph, and Craig shows Bond as a cold, lethal assassin, and does a great job with Eva Green. He follows in the footsteps of Dalton, being the character that Ian Flemming created.
3:Peirce Brosnan/ He really looked great as Bond and did some really great action sequences. He really made Bond his own. But Die Another Day was too outlandish and proved that it was time for a change.
4:Sean Connery/ Just because he was the first doesn't mean he was the best. He should have stopped after Thunderball, because his next two movies were just silly and stupid. Dr.No throught Thunderball were great and started the Bond phenomenon. His movies seemed to be more about the women than the actual mission, with the exception of From Russia With Love. He looked bored and tired in Diamonds are Forever. He did great action though.
5:George Lazenby/ This was a hard decision, seeing as George had only 1 movie, while Roger had seven movies. But i liked OHMSS too much to put him in last place. I thought George was an excellent choice for James Bond, and if he would have done more movies i'd replace Sean with him.
6:Roger Moore/ He acted well enough, and 3 of his movies i really liked. But he put way too much humor into the part and a lot of his movies were just way too silly. He really doesn't look the part either and he really should have stopped after For Your Eyes Only.
My Best Bond Movies List:
01: Casino Royale/ Not only my favorite Bond movie, but my favorite movie of all time. Craig does an awesome job. And Eva Green is perfect as Vesper Lynd. A perfect reboot for a series which was starting to get redundant.
02: The Living Daylights/ Dalton is great and brings Bond back to life. Maryam d'Abo works really well with Dalton. Great action and good characters make for a memorable movie.
03: GoldenEye/ A great movie with stunning action sequences and a very good script. Peirce brings a lot of realism to Bond and the bond girls were just right. Not only was it a great movie, it also spawned one of the biggest video game achievments ever. A lot of good memories watching that movie and playing that video game.
04: On Her Majesty's Secret Service/ George's only movie, but the story and supporting cast help to ensure that he is remembered as being Bond. He really gave the impression that he was a spy and not some invincible action hero. Diana Rigg was wonderful as Tracy and there was good chemistry between her and Bond. It was obvious that George had a great sense of humor stepping into the role (the line he says at the end of the opening sequence) and he could also be a dramatic and serious actor (the end sequence when Tracy is killed).
05: Licence to Kill/ Dalton does it again and this time he's dark and dangerous. I loved Q's involvment in this movie and the great action sequence with the trucks at the end. I really liked how Dalton (in both of his movies) wasn't out seeking women and sleeping with them. He earned their trust and friendship and didn't physically force women to make love to him, like Sean and Roger.
06: From Russia With Love/ Sean Connery's best outing as James Bond. This movie was very realistic and had a deep story. I can see why so many people enjoy this movie and like Sean Connery. I only wish that more of his movies were as great as this one was. I loved the villians in this movie. And i especially loved the fight in the train between Grant and Bond. The Helicopter part was cool too.
07: For Your Eyes Only/ I had to include this movie in the list. This was Roger at his best. He took his role seriously and added the perfect amount of humor and action that every bond movie should have. They ditched the cheesy fantasy crap that Roger was often associated with and created a more real and deep story for Roger to use. It was like From Russia with Love again. Roger wasn't a dog for once and he played Bond very well. This really should have been his final outing as James Bond.
My Worst Bond Movie List:
01: A View To A Kill/ Roger was way too old for the part and Grace Jones was a horrible villianess. It was totally unrealistic and boring. The bond girl was a ditz, there's no way in hell she could be a scientist. The only good thing about the movie was Christopher Walken he was great and that's it.
02:Moonraker/ Why did they make this movie? They shouldn't have done this to poor James. He doesn't deserve it. The whole idea of him going into space was just totally outlandish and Jaws falling in love! What were they thinking. The movie wreaked of sillyness. But i have to say that the skydive part was cool.
03: Die Another Day/ I actually liked this movie, the reason it's on this list is because they used to much computer animation. And the casting was questionable. The characters weren't very convincing and it was starting to show that the Bond series was getting watered down.
04:You Only Live Twice/ Way too goofy for my tastes and it's quite obvious that the Austin Powers series took a lot from this movie, and for good reason. The movie is utterly silly and corny, and the production seems to be of a different quality than the other bond movies. A lower quality that is.
05: Diamonds are Forever/ Sean shouldn't have come back for the role. He looked bored during the film and there was some strange casting and storyline choices made. Wint and Kidd were gay, that's just plain stupid. And Bambi and Thumper...who thought of that! It's way to strange for me. And the unexplained car stunt really put me off. Somehow Bond managed to swing the car on the other two wheels in the alley and come out without damaging the car at all. If the movie had made less production mistakes and change the storyline to get rid of or change a couple of characters. I would have liked the movie a lot more.
Other than those 5 movies i really love the James Bond Series. Those were my personal opinions of the actors and the movies, and i respect everyone elses opinions on the series.
I really like 16 out of the 21 Bond movies. And i think that's a damn good record for a series that has run for such a long time. James bond is the best action hero there is and i hope the series will prosper for many more years to come.
I would like to add that if you don't have the Ultimate James Bond DVD Sets 1-4, you should go out and buy them right now! They are loaded with tons of great extras and all the movies were remastered so they all look awesome! Nobody does it better than Bond!!!
i even thought that Clive Owen would make a better James Bond than Daniel Craig... Daniel Craig is more like a Bond Villain than being the Agent!
James Bond is gettin Boring!!!
The next Bond film, Quantum of Solace, takes place almost immediately after 'Casino Royale' ended, so any unanswered questions may be dealt with here, such as: Mathis, Vesper Lynd's treachery,Bond:Year One continuing,M's trust issues w/Bond,etc..
Thanks for the information.
I guess we have to agree to disagree that it's all personal opinion. I have my own ideas, and i see that some of you have the same as me, and some don't....but at least let me say this as far as "Casino Royale" goes...
when I first saw it, I thought the movie was pretty good but wasn't sure about Daniel Craig. The more i watch it though, the more he grows on me.... As someone who is a fan of Bond from reading the original Fleming books, I still don't think he is as Fleming imagined him...ex naval officer etc. But I CAN see him perhaps as an ex SAS type....
and okay, he may not be conventionally good looking, the way Brosnan and Moore and the the others are, but he obviously has a ruggedness and sex appeal about him. Just ask any number of women! Lets see what happens with "Quantum of Solace"...I'm quite interested. (By the way...no "Q"? Okay, he wasn't in all the books...in fact he was 2 separate people in the books..the armourer
who provided Bond with guns...Major Boothroyd, and the un named head of Q division (quartermaster} who provided the other gadgets.... but no Moneypenny???? C'MON!!

Now the Bond films have absolutely no style OF THEIR OWN. They are stylish in the way Hollywood films are stylish, but the very British personality and identity is totally gone. There's no personality to them at all anymore. They're empty action films now.
I could not believe the public reaction to Casino Royale. I thought it was so abominably bad, that I decided after the film, I would just not go see them anymore. What kind of director has Bond emerging from the sea in his sexy speedo, as if HE were Ursala Andress. (And dont tell me Connery did it in Thunderball. Totally differant. Craig was backlit and drippping with perfect lighting etc. Connery just walked out the ocean. It was like watching Bond modelling for us.)
What kind of a director takes all the gadgets out, which is not a bad idea, but then has one gadget that is by far the MOST RIDICULOUS in the entire series. His car and the girl bring him back to life!!!! Give me a break!
The entire series is now produced for teenagers, who will give anything a thumbs up so long as there is plenty of "cool" action. I feel that if I want to go see a Hollywood action film, I have plenty of options. Bond was always unique in the storytelling, crafting and overall production.
That has been lost - but atleast we have the original films to remind us how far the "franchise" has gone wrong!!
~Sahil
I'm literally watching the movie as I type this and it's so bad I went online to see what the opinion was for the worst Bond movie of all time. (Since I'm watching them in order and a lot of votes go to Moonraker I'm not exactly looking forward to that one.)
I liked Diamonds Are Forever and while the ending was not good I though up until then it was good. At least I knew what it was about, unlike The Spy Who Loved Me. The plot is terrible and the notion that Roger Moore could beat up Jaws in a fight is ludicrous. So far this has been the worst of the bunch and does not belong among the top seven films of the series, in my opinion.
2. Dr. No
3. Thunderball
4. For Your Eyes Only
5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
6. Live and Let Die
7. Goldfinger
I really liked Roger Moore, and I have to say he is equally as good as Sean Connery, not better.

1. Live And Let Die
liked all but the recent Daniel Craig show.
For thier was no gadgets, no Q(which they replaced), and the movie just didnt tie along with all the other James Bond movies.
Nothing but kicking and fighting and some people say they like that because they would rather have realism then imagination.
But all in all why do you watch James Bond if you dont want imagination? For all of them had some imagination till Casino Royal.
"If you dont want imagination and want realisim go watch a cowboy movie with the kicking and fighting and leave the James Bond Movies alone."
D.A.F. really has everything you would want from a Bond film: great caper of a story with lots of twists, plenty of funny quips (G Section, checking radiation levels), casinos, an excellent car chase in downtown Vegas, one of the best fight scenes in the elevator with Franks (rivals the Red Grant fight scene), a number of quirky henchmen, a sinister Blofeld, a serious world threat, and a big finale--and it has Sean Connery.
Speaking of Sir Sean, I actually think he's having a lot of fun in this role. He knows it's his last. Diamonds Are Forever is to the Connery Bond Movies as Abbey Road is to the Beatles--a fine farewell to an excellent run of work (and they both embodied 1960's British culture)
Stand out Bond movies in my memory -
1) GOLDENEYE - for me this is the top Bond movie, made even better by playing to death the classic videogame of it by Rare on the Nintendo 64. Brosnan might be a good Bond but IMO he's only done one great Bond movie, this one. His others get progressively worse and are nowhere near as good as Goldeneye.
This movie has Bond girls that are well acted and memorable. Pierce Brosnan brings some smoothness back into the role after the serious Dalton. Good one liners and take for example the scene in the boat when he whips the dude down the stairs with a towel and then wipes his face with it afterward. Moments like that is what gives me movie the Bond feel that I value in a lot of the older films. But it's up to date! Great opening theme, the score is suitably modern but retains that classic feel and Sean Bean plays a great vilian.
Action sequences - the tank chase!!! that sums it all up really. There's definitely great action in this film. Even more important the action is punctuated by the score very nicely. It's quite a lenghty movie (2 hours) but breezes by. Also the storyline with the Russian connection is more like an old school Bond storyline that the other more far fetched Brosnan films.
2) THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - My favourite Roger Moore movie and in a lot of ways he made by far the most entertaining Bond movies. They were a lot more corny than the others and sometimes overstepped the boundaries (Moonraker) but for me this was a highly entertaining flick and one of the best Bonds for that reason. The balance of humour was just about right and it had all the elements of the Moore movies executed to perfection. Sure it was far fetched but there was always a good bit of espionage to cover up for this in the Moore movies. There's only so much you can do with the whole political/world dominating madman formula and Christopher Lee made an enjoyable vilian.
best quote 'a gun and a bag of peanuts, how original'
3) YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE - Probably the best Connery movie. I can't really remember it in detail except that it was the most enjoyable movie from Connery and that Connery acted out the role with class in all his efforts.
4) THE DALTON MOVIES - Enjoyable and engaging in their own right. They still have that old school Bond feel for me. Realistic, complicated plots, some nice Bond girls, Bond gadgets...
That's really all I can say in terms of the Bond movies that really stand out in my mind after not watching them all for a while. I definitely enjoyed Moore's movies more than Connery's though and I also really liked Dalton's two for being more complex and modern. Having said that Connery was effortlessly smooth and his films will always be defind as the classic Bond. I really need to watch them all again like I said though to get a good feel as I'm forgetting loads. But I have to give it up to Roger Moore again for consistantly making the most entertaining Bond movies. For some reason, the outrageousness in the Moore films seems to make them appear less aged than the Connery ones, except Moonraker which was crappy.
Daniel Craig - he might be doing a Bond closer to the ones in the books but I didn't like his debut one bit. There was no suaveness to him at all. I feel that in Bond movies that humourous element should be mandatory. Even if its more dry/subtle than Moore, as with Brosnan and Connery, it HAS to be there, or it detracts from my enjoyment and entertainment value of the film massively. So, we have a serious movie that might be closer to the book but isn't fun as a movie. No emphasis on cool gadgets, no memorable Bond girls, no cool one liners and Daniel Craig doesn't fit the role physically for me either. He clearly built himself up but he has a small head in comparison to his body and it looks silly. Women may still like him but you can't have a little pea head and big muscles and still be suave. The enjoyable films focus on Bond's attitude and not muscles.
Even as a more serious effort it still has major flaws - take the ending for example. It's as if they just bolted that part on at the end. I thought it was over but no some building is randomly getting flooded etc etc - completely ruined any kind of pacing they had going with the story when it seemingly ended but started back up again. Or maybe that's supposed to be the 'twist'. Whatever, I didn't enjoy Casino Royale nearly as much as Goldeneye or the Roger Moore/Connery and even both Dalton films.
Ok that's the end of my little Bond rant, hope it made sense :)
I was completely disappointed by "Casino Royale" - This film totally lacked the humour and self-distance of the earlier movies. It was just another thriller - with spectacular stunts - but still just an ordinary actionfilm. No fun and no gadgets - even the Aston Martin, wich in the old days could, shoot, sail and disappear, had rockets and bulletproof screens. And what did it have in "Casino Royale"? - A defilibrator! And it tilted during a monouver any sportscar should be able to make....
I wil defenatly wait for the reveiws on Quantum of Solace (from friends - not editors) before I waste money on it.
I am sure you all watched the series with some appetite for these Talented Girls also
your score on the series before done not surely because of James Bond and the music alone...

I did not dislike any of these films, I enjoyed them all.
Favorite Bond actors
1.Sean Connery- This man played the role with so much class he has to be first, on top of that in my eyes all his movies were amazing.
2.Roger Moore- Hate him all you want he has made many great Bond movies and I loved the humor he added to the role.
3.Daniel Craig- Theres something about him that reminds me of the Connery films and makes me feel that the Bond series as many years left in it after all.
4.Pirece Brosman- I love his take on Bond and most of the Bond girls there were during his time with the role.
5.Timothy Dalton- Say what you want but this guy did a fucking great job as Bond, the darkness he added to him was something needed after Roger Moores lighter approach.
6.George Lazenby- He did ok but it was missing something.
So here is my opinion:
1.The Spy Who Loved Me
2. From Russia With Love
3.Goldfinger
4.The Living Daylights
5.For Your Eyes Only

Best to Worst Bonds:
1. Connery
2. Lazenby
3. Craig
4. Brosnan
5. Moore
6. Dalton
4. Quantum of Solace- if you've seen it. 5. Casino Royale
i think it would even be better than the original
I just feel that Brosnan scored 100% of the chances we gave him, it wasnt his falt that tommorow never dies, the world is not enough, and die another day were bad movies, i think if they had Connery or Moore in them, they would be allot worse
also.. A View to Kill was not all too bad, sure tanya was kind of lame, but i feel that chris walken made up for it.
dalton
craig
connery
moore
lazenby
brosnan
tim dalton for me was the best bond, as he brings the rough realism to the part, he was a bond that actually bled when he fought and got the crap beat out of him seriously a couple times a movie but still came out on top. very different from that waxwork roger moore who glided through his fight scenes without a scratch or sean connery who karate chopped and punched his way through fights but who also always came out of it unscathed. i also like the de-emphasis of the "bond girls" in dalton's films as they tend to drag the films down as much as or more than they serve the actual plot........it also seemed that the dalton movies (or at least the living daylights) put a bit more thought into their plots than the earlier connery/moore offerings. i like craig cause he seems to be in the more serious, brutal dalton mode of bond.
peirce brosnan was the worst bond because after goldeneye, his movies got progressively shittier until they reached the utter bottom of the barrel in the ubershitfest abomination/abortion of the bond series "die another day". i realize that both connery and moore's movies also got worse and worse after their high points (thunderball and the spy who loved me respectively) but the decline in their movies was gradual, as opposed to the complete nosedive the brosnan bonds took after goldeneye.........
"It's your lucky day, Jim! You're goin' skydivin'!"
"What are you, boy? Some kind of doomsday machine? Well we got a cage strong enough to hold an animlal like you!"
"Secret agent!? On whose side?"
This was Roger Moore's first Bond and he look great, sounds great. All in all, a fun movie, I always enjoy it. Also, arguably the best theme song of all of 'em!
