Movie Notes: Superman IV: The Quest For Peace

Started by webomatica · 3 months ago

The fourth installment of the Superman franchise nearly made me cry (and would have been a good entry in the So Bad They're Good movie contest). This is despite solving one problem of Superman III: Gene Hackman and Margot Kidder are back as Lex Luthor as Lois Lane - but unfortunately, ever ... Continue reading »

  • Hey Jase, the super stare clip was awesome. What did the "super kiss" do? Bring people back from the dead? (a sort of "super" cpr?)

Also, I'm curious to know why Lois and Clark are no longer an item?

This movie sounds hilarious reading your review (I saw it as a kid, but didn't remember any of the details).

FWIW, they were playing Dune on TV last night and I caught about 20 minutes of it. That might be another worthwhile bad-80s adaptation for you to review at some point. I caught the part where the spice navigator was folding time and space and I must say it looked ridiculous (basically a 2d worm with flames coming out of various orifices). The matte paintings and the planetary shots are also horrible. Anyway, just a thought since I know you were/are a fan of Dune at some point...
  • The super-kiss is used to wipe people's memory. I think Lois Lane is in love with Superman but not Clark Kent. It makes no sense and neither does Nuclear Man. But Superman III and IV are so bad that I think some consider "Superman Returns" to be a sequel to Superman II - meaning III and IV aren't even part of the "canon". So you can ignore all the continuity errors introduced by this film.

As for Dune - I recently watched an Extended Version that I thought was decent. A great version of Dune has yet to be made; that's for certain.
  • I haven't seen any of the part of Superman movies, as I saw a small clip which did not impress me much. But let see what graphics these people are using for this new movie. I like spiderman more than superman.
  • I have watched the move and just wanna say that it is disappointing to say the least, but at least it doesn't have Richard Pryor this time as its star.
