I'm wondering what the next movie is going be.

Thanks for visiting and commenting!

Re: Movie Notes: Casino Royale

Watching Casino Royale after I bought it on DVD. I think this James Bond movie is the best gambling Bond ever. Yes, you were right about the movie being a five- star.

Re: Movie Notes: Casino Royale

Dude... I noticed you added "Galactica, the ship" to the poll... I don't know if that's the best way to sell your theory :)

Someone also added two votes for Jane Seymour (an obscure reference to the 70s original Galactica movie). What next, Muffit?

Anyhow, I think you are right on with liking Casino Royale. Bond movies got to be a cliche up to this point and I've read on other sites some folks thought they were becoming parodies of earlier Bond movies. They really needed to try something different in order to gain a new audience and keep us older dudes involved.

The crazy action stuff - I know that jumping off walls and over buildings is trendy and I could accept the guy Bond was chasing doing that, but my issue was Bond himself doing it. Luckilly for me, everything after that was not as video game-like.

Based on your comments - don't ever watch Die Another Day. The CGI stuff in that is really laughably over the top - Bond windsurfing away from a glaicer, and trying to land an exploding jet. Well, unless you feel up for a truly bad movie...

Re: Movie Notes: Casino Royale

I enjoy reading your Bond reviews, but have to admit I'm not a Bond fan. I haven't enjoyed most of the Bond films I've seen.

This film, however, is the PERFECT Bond film for folks who don't like James Bond. I loved this film and will probably go see its sequel if it's starring Craig as well.

I usually hate Mario Bros sequences, but in this film I thought they were fine since the dude is just so rugged and forceful, I kinda liked seeing him do some crazy action stuff. And the choreography seemed real crisp. The Mario Bros bits I really hate are things like the Robot Factory sequence in Attack of the Clones or ridiculous extended car chase sequences like the big one in the second Matrix movie.

I did think the sinking building in Venice was ridiculous.
