What with pretty much every service provider saying bandwidth caps and/or overage fees are inevitable, measuring your bandwidth usage over a period of time is a good exercise, if only to know what you may be in for in the future.   • A good way around that is to measure your bandwidth at the router - not all routers seem to support it, though, and it took some technical work to get it working properly for me.

    I'd hope my ISP would keep track and tell me, but that's not the case...and I don't know that I'd trust them if they did provide the data.
  • Yeah, now that I think about it, my router has bandwidth tracking.
    However, I do like that SurplusMeter is displayed on the desktop so I
    can look at from time to time and even watch it update as I surf the
    web (there are some big websites out there).
