They're subjected to many more rigors than a desktop and the components are expensive to replace. You'll get more than your money's worth if you have your 'book serviced just once.  My current Powerbook has had its display replaced twice and its Superdrive replaced at no cost to me, thanks to AC. It's definitely worth it.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As for losing drafts, I started using Google Docs while writing. Auto-save and off-site storage ensures that nothing unseemly happens to my work.
