I’ve Been Outed

Started by webomatica · 10 months ago

Over the past few weeks I've noticed an increasing amount of references to this blog by my real name - Jason Kaneshiro. Most likely this is due to my unintentional use of my real name at FriendFeed and to a lesser degree, the other blog I'm writing for, the Blog Herald. ... Continue reading »

  • Take heart Jase, at least your middle name remains TOP SECRET! :-)
  • My name is Dave Dombrowski. What's odd is that most poeple don't realize how common my name is:

    (1) I was one of three DaveDs living in my town of 200,000 in Pennsylvania. None of us have ever met, and AFAIK none of us are related whatsoever. I speak in the past tense because there are only two of us left in town - the one with bad credit doesn't live in the area anymore!

    (2) I grew up as a Cleveland sports fan listening to (then) WWWE and nowadays WTAM 1100 AM, the broadcast home of the Indians, Cavaliers, and Browns. I don't know if he's still the broadcast engineer for the radio sportcasts, but guess who it was? You got it.

    (3) But why I just had to post is this - my namesake went from being the GM of the Montreal Expos (contender when he was there) to the Florida Marlins (leading them to the World Series over Cleveland in 1997 and pretty much rebuilt the 2003 champs too) to nowadays the Detroit Tigers (AL champs in 2006).

I'm still amazed at how people I work with every day can't believe how common my name is.
  • heh, those are good anecdotes. I don't know any Dave Dombrowskis but surely there are several with a nation this large. I imagine its a little like that oddity of shared birthdays when you have enough people in the same room. There seems to be a pretty small subset of first names (how many Daves or Gregs do you know) and from there, the last names are less common but not as unusual as we think.

I wonder how many Dave Smiths there are... the mind reels.
  • Good now I can call you Jason instead of webo :)
  • Cool, Jason! In replying to you, I wasn't sure what I should call you - so I checked your About page, which listed your first and last name (so it's not a secret). :)
  • I'm glad you're not unhappy about being outed. I had the same thing happen once before, and I ended up killing the blog to remove the associations. It sucked, but it was a little more personal in nature and definitely not something I'd want every current or prospective employer to be digging through.
