You also should look into OpenOffice. There are versions available for Windows, Linux and Mac.

Hi Greg, I have checked out OpenOffice - it's decent but the UI on the Mac leaves something to be desired. I should take another look, though. Either way, I'm thinking the free options are good enough for home use these days. A lot of the other software I'm using is freeware / shareware.
