Later on I tried again and once I got into it I couldn't put it down. It's a dark book - and I won't give any spoilers - that is definitely not light reading :) .. I never did read any more of the Gaea series though.

Re: Book Notes: The Shockwave Rider, John Brunner

Yeah, Titan and Wizard are ok but weird. I really recommend anything Varley did after that though. Especially Blue Steel. Read that one three times.

I love that I can reserve books online using my local library system and then use http://libraryelf.com to get email/rss updates of it.

Re: Book Notes: The Shockwave Rider, John Brunner

Cool... once again the library seems to have a lot of science fiction and the older ones are likely easier to find in the used book stores, too. Others I've read are the foundation series and 2001, 2010.

Re: Book Notes: The Shockwave Rider, John Brunner

Glad you liked it and like engtech I recommend the older sci-fi writings.

people like:
James Blish - Cities in Flight series
John Varley - Titan (part of the Gaea series) was a really hard book to get into - took me two tries but once I got in it wouldn't let me go

and of course my favorit - Robert Heinlein

Re: Book Notes: The Shockwave Rider, John Brunner

Stick with the old sci-fi. Another really good one is The Mote In God's Eye.
